Kathy was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois where she graduated in 1968 from Evanston Township High School. She was the third of five children. Kathy grew up a tomboy, passionately loving sports and particularly playing baseball, long distance running, horseback riding, swimming and gymnastics. She and her siblings were all taught by their father how to safely handle and shoot guns, hunt and fish while her mother also instilled her with a love of sewing, needlepoint, and art, as well as how to cook and bake. Both parents instilled the family with a deep appreciation of all types of literature. The family always had a dog in residence, providing companionship, security and amusement.
Kathy attended Northern Illinois University for two and a half years, leaving to work and get married to her first husband before completing her degree in Anthropology. She did not however, give up the dream of a college degree and over decades attended classes at Vassar College, Trinity College and obtained credits from Middlesex Community College. She finally completed her B.A. in General Studies at University of Connecticut in 2008.
During her life Kathy has worked entry level jobs as a switchboard operator and shop clerk in Princeton, NJ. She also worked as a waitress and front desk clerk at the White Hart Inn, Salisbury, the Media Technician at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, and State Police Dispatcher for three years, eventually being accepted into the Ct State Police Academy in 1982. She served as a trooper for over 23 years, retiring in 2006. Since completing her degree Kathy has been substitute teaching in Regional School District #1.
Kathy lived in Lakeville since 1972, met her husband Mark at the CT State Police Academy and they married in 1984, settling first in Harwinton, CT and then moving back to Lakeville four years later. They have three adult children and two grandsons. Over the years they have always had anywhere from one to three rescue dogs, barn cats, guinea pigs, two horses and most recently a flock of chickens Kathy raised from chicks. She has also taken up genealogical research not only into her own family ancestry, but assists others with their family histories. She is a member of the Ct. Society of Genealogists. Kathy is also a member of the National Rifle Association.
Over the years Kathy has served the community as a scouting den mother, an EMT for five years on Salisbury Ambulance Service, three years on the vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church, VP of the Southern New England Parents Association for the USMMA at Kings Point, NY, Secretary of the Lime Rock Committee (a historic and environmental preservation community group), and almost a decade on the Salisbury Republican Town Committee.
Over the past fifteen years she has become a decorative painter and aspires to owning her own decorative painting shop and business. That dream, however, has been put on hold due to the current economic and political situations that exist in our state and nation. Kathy has committed herself to getting elected to the Ct Assembly with the intent of regaining control over the state budget disaster and helping business once again flourish in the state so that our citizens can find employment in order to provide for their families.
